MUHAMMAD SHAFI TRUST
Muhammad Shafi Trust is a family Trust set up by the Directors of the Shafi Group of Industries. The Trust is named after Late Mian Muhammad Shafi, a well-known philanthropist in the Chiniot Shaikh ethnicity. Besides several welfare activities, he established Idaaraa Bait-ul-Maal in the 50s for helping orphans, widows, and other helpless persons in society.
Most of the Zakat and Khairaat funds of the Shafi Group of Companies are channelized through Muhammad Shafi Trust, for the following purposes:
- To support schools providing education to poor sections of society, for meeting their monthly deficits.
- Provide a large number of scholarships to students all over the country for school, college, and university education, including medical colleges and engineering colleges.
- Provide funds to widows, orphans, and other needy persons.
- Provide Zakat donations to major hospitals of the city for providing the best healthcare facilities to the poor and needy people, who otherwise cannot afford to have such facilities.
MAJOR PROGRAMS & INITIATIVES
Muhammad Shafi Educational Complex, Shershah, Karachi
A large educational complex comprising a Technical School and Polytechnic Institute, both for boys and girls, in Kachchi Abaadi of Shershah Colony, Karachi. This complex is equipped with state-of-the-art workshops and laboratories. Over 1,200 students are presently studying, and this number shall grow to 3,000 in about two years.
Ayesha Memorial Public High School, Chiniot
This school is in operation for over a decade now and more than 600 boys and girls students are studying in this school. It is providing quality education and achieves very good results. It provides modern educational facilities, including computer labs. This school is also in the process of expansion.
LRBT Eye Hospital, Chiniot (Under Construction)
This eye hospital is under construction. Muhammad Shafi Trust is sponsoring the construction of this hospital. Once this eye hospital starts functioning, it will provide free services to Chiniot and several surrounding areas of the districts. The operations of this hospital are being managed by M/s. Layton Rehmatullah Benevolent Trust (LRBT).
Women’s Vocational Training Institute, Korangi, Karachi (Under Construction)
This institute is at the last stages of construction and shall start functioning very soon. The aim is to provide international standard vocational training facilities to the women of the underprivileged segment of society. As the name suggests, this institute is meant for women only. The operations of the institute are being managed by M/s. The Hunar Foundation.
Mian Siddiq Shafi Government Degree College for Women Chiniot
This institute is at the last stages of construction and shall start functioning very soon. The aim is to provide international standard vocational training facilities to the women of the underprivileged segment of society. As the name suggests, this institute is meant for women only. The operations of the institute are being managed by M/s. The Hunar Foundation.
Zakia Begum Iqra Primary School
The Zakia Begum Iqra Primary School is a purpose-built campus totally financed and freely run by the Shafi Group at Gulberg Town, Factory Area, Sheikhupura (Punjab). All books, Tuition Fees, and other administrative expenses are borne by the Directors of Shafi Group.
Green Crescent Trust - The Water Project
The Shafi Group has partnered with the Green Crescent Trust in providing access to water and improved sanitation to people living in the water-scarce Tharparkar region. Clean water means health, income and education for the entire village. With this project, each village we engage in gets their own well, providing a safe and reliable source of clean drinking water right outside their homes. The trust has initiated 650 water projects with over 190,000 beneficiaries and it aims to install Water Projects at all 2,300 villages of Tharparkar.
